Saltmarshe Hall, located in Laxton, East Yorkshire, England, is a Grade II listed country house with a rich history dating back to the 12th century. The current building, constructed in the late Georgian period, replaced an earlier medieval structure. The Saltmarshe family owned and occupied the estate for over 900 years until it was sold in 1974.

The hall has been the subject of numerous ghost stories and reported paranormal activities over the years. One of the most well-known apparitions is that of a young woman in a blue dress, believed to be a former resident who died in childbirth. Witnesses have reported seeing her wandering the corridors and gardens, often appearing distressed or searching for something.

Another frequently reported phenomenon is the sound of phantom footsteps echoing through the halls, particularly in the upper floors and attic spaces. Some visitors have claimed to hear the sound of children laughing and playing, despite no children being present in the building.

The library is said to be a hotspot for paranormal activity, with reports of books mysteriously falling from shelves and the smell of pipe smoke lingering in the air, even though smoking has long been prohibited in the building.

In the grounds surrounding the hall, witnesses have reported seeing the ghostly figure of a monk walking near the old chapel ruins. This apparition is believed to be connected to the property’s medieval history and its possible links to nearby religious establishments.

The cellar areas have also been associated with unexplained cold spots and feelings of unease reported by staff and visitors. Some have described sensing an unseen presence watching them while in these lower levels of the building.
