The Park Hotel

The Park Hotel

The Park Hotel in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, dates back to the early 19th century when it was originally built as a private residence. In 1860, the property was converted into a hotel to accommodate the growing number of travelers passing through the area. During the Civil War, the hotel served as a temporary hospital for wounded soldiers, and some believe this period contributed to the reported paranormal activity.

One of the most frequently encountered spirits is said to be that of a young Confederate soldier who died in the hotel during its time as a makeshift hospital. Guests and staff have reported seeing his apparition in military uniform, often near the main staircase or in the upper hallways. Some claim to have heard the sound of boots walking on wooden floors, even in carpeted areas.

Another recurring ghost story involves a woman in a white dress, believed to be a former guest who took her own life in one of the rooms during the early 1900s. Witnesses describe seeing her figure standing at windows or walking through walls, accompanied by sudden drops in temperature.

The hotel’s basement, which once housed the kitchen and storage areas, is reportedly a hotbed of paranormal activity. Staff members have reported hearing disembodied voices, the sound of pots and pans clanging, and feeling an unseen presence watching them.

In the hotel’s former ballroom, now used for events, guests have reported seeing shadowy figures moving across the dance floor and hearing faint music playing when the room is empty. Some have even claimed to feel a gentle touch on their shoulder or arm while in this space.
